Plastic surgery practices around the country and world offer the popular plastic surgery procedure known as the facelift. Portland’s Aesthetic Medicine, however, is one of the only practices that offer the advanced MiniFacelift™, a minimally invasive variation that provides dramatic results without the drawbacks of surgery.

The MiniFacelift™ Difference
Dr. Jerry Darm and and Dr. Amie Zawacki created the MiniFacelift™ to give patients beautiful results while avoiding the negative aspects of surgery. This non-traditional approach to facial rejuvenation results in an average tightening of 20 percent for lax facial tissues.
Since this technique’s creation, the Aesthetic Medicine team has performed more than 20,000 procedures over the last decade.
Incisions
The incisions necessary for a traditional facelift are typically longer and made in the hairline, around the ears, and elsewhere as necessary. These larger openings are then used to access underlying facial tissues, as well as to provide places where excess skin can be pulled tight, trimmed, and then sutured.
The MiniFacelift™ involves only minimal incisions made where strictly necessary for the insertion of a metal tube known as a cannula. This tube allows for the emission of laser energy, which causes tissues below the surface to contract for a tighter, smoother, and firmer look. This energy also triggers fresh production of collagen and elastin, which are critical proteins for a youthful-looking face.
Anesthetic
Because a traditional facelift involves surgical tactics, the anesthesia used must be significant—often involving the patient being fully sedated. This means a more lengthy recovery, since it takes time for the sedation to leave the body.
A MiniFacelift™ is far less invasive, and so requires only a local anesthetic. You will remain awake during the procedure, while also remaining relatively comfortable throughout the process.
Healing
The more traumatic a procedure, the more severe the side effects and longer a healing time afterward. A traditional facelift patient can expect significant swelling, bruising, and soreness as tissues heal in the weeks after the surgery. The incisions leave longer scars, and sutures will need to be removed.
Smaller incisions and less-invasive strategies mean less trauma from the MiniFacelfit™. Patients can expect about a day of swelling, after which they can get back to life as desired.
One more note: The MiniFacelift™ targets both the face and neck for a comprehensive rejuvenation that doesn’t leave one area tightened and one lax. Your whole face and neck will look younger—often by up to a decade!
