This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.
Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.
These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users.

Dr. Darm has practiced aesthetic medicine for the past twenty years, performing over 100,000 laser procedures. Previously, Dr. Darm was a board certified Emergency Medicine physician (ER doctor) with over 25 years experience. He graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. His medical training was obtained at OHSU. Dr. Darm opened his private practice, Aesthetic Medicine, in 1995. Initially specializing in weight loss, he expanded to include hair removal and rosacea treatments in 1997. Since that time, new services are continually added to promote health, wellness and beauty. Dr Darm has pioneered his own trademark procedures: LaserLift ™ for the treatment of wrinkles, and LipoLift ™ for the treatment of unwanted fat, he is internationally recognized and sought out by patients from all over the world. Dr. Darm enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters and grandsons. He enjoy going out on his Pontoon boat and loves to work!
Shana LaMarsh is the Chief Executive Officer at Aesthetic Medicine. She has been involved and contributed to Aesthetic Medicine for over 12 years with over 15 years of medical experience.
Shana returned to Aesthetic Medicine as the Business Manager. She found a new passion for the business aspect of Aesthetic Medicine, and combined with her clinical passion, Shana found her true calling.
Shana believes the best part of her job is making patients look and feel their best. She finds it truly rewarding to be a part of their patients’ Aesthetic journey and loves building and maintaining relationships with patients that have continued to come in for all their cosmetic needs over the years. She is so grateful and excited to be open for patients during these difficult times and appreciates all of your support.
On a personal note, Shana grew up in both Las Vegas, NV, and Portland, Oregon. She is now a long-time and proud resident of Oregon. Aside from her long-term dedication to Aesthetic Medicine, she has three amazing children with her husband, Steve, of 20 years. Her family is everything to her and she says she wouldn’t be here today without all of their unwavering support, especially her husband. Outside of work, her hobbies include camping, hiking, traveling, music, home décor decorating, and gardening.
Dr. Zawacki, a family practice board certified physician, has performed over 10,000 procedures at Aesthetic Medicine. She graduated from Western State University of Colorado, with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and received her M.D. from Saba University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Southwest Washington Medical Center. She has worked in the Aesthetic Industry for twelve years in Washington and Oregon performing cosmetic procedures like Laser Liposuction, Botox, Fillers, Sclerotherapy, and VNUS closure procedures. She joined Aesthetic Medicine in 2009. She has continued her training both with the manufacturer of the Slim Lipo device and two very prominent physicians in the field of Laser Liposuction. Dr. Zawacki is licensed in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Dr. Zawacki is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American Medical Association. She is an avid skier, world traveler, hiker, and enjoys photography when she is not practicing medicine.
Dr. Zawacki has an experienced team of medical assistants and nurses. The team has been working together for many years. If you should have any questions or concerns her entire team is educated and willing to assist in your patient care.
Joelle is an Aesthetic Registered Nurse Injector at Aesthetic Medicine – Lake Oswego. Joelle is originally from Phoenix, Arizona but left the desert heat for beautiful Portland to finish her education and be closer to family. With nearly ten years of experience in healthcare and a bachelor’s degree in nursing, Joelle feels passionately about continuous education to keep up with the ever-changing trends in facial aesthetics. Joelle values a multi-modality approach, utilizing her expertise in facial balancing, wrinkle relaxation, and medical grade skincare to meet the highly individualized needs of her clients.
I am a board certified Physician Assistant (PA) with a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from King’s College in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. I have been a PA since 2007. I have a family medicine background and taught Medical Assistant students for several years. I completed an almost two year, hands-on internship here at Aesthetic Medicine. At our office, I perform the tumescent anesthesia for the laser liposuction procedures as well as provide patients with Botox and Laser treatments. You also may see me for your initial consultation and after your lipo surgery for your recheck. My passion for aesthetics runs deep! I really enjoy helping people look and feel their best. It is so rewarding to help build confidence and self-love in others!
In addition to my passion for aesthetic medicine, I love all things health and wellness. I have been a part-time, certified master group fitness instructor at a local family owned and operated fitness studio for several years. I enjoy hiking, traveling, and spending time with my husband and three young children. My motto is to enjoy life to the fullest!
Joined Aesthetic Medicine in 2015 as a student from Concorde College completing her clinical hours and was officially hired in January 2016 as a Medical Assistant.
Over the years of shadowing, training and performing Laser Procedures, training staff in multiple departments of the practice making her the Lead Aesthetic Medical Assistant and Laser Safety Officer.
She finds fulfillment in helping patients feel and look amazing. Her philosophy is, “patient care comes first!”
April is Portland born and raised, currently lives in Vancouver, WA. When not at work she enjoys adventures with her husband and dog, spontaneous trips, hiking, outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Lauren fell in love with aesthetics working as a Treatment Consultant in 2003. Her job was to help people feel their best by guiding them to treatments that would enhance their beauty and soften or reverse signs of aging. Connecting with people in this role brought so much joy and fulfillment that she decided to lean into that passion and become an injection specialist in 2016.
Lauren has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Portland State University and a bachelor’s in Nursing from Oregon Health and Science University. A main driving force in her life is to seek out inspiration and beauty in the simple things that make up every day. Lauren loves faces and the people behind them, and she sees a unique beauty in every face she encounters. Lauren loves being in nature, spending time with her four year old son, and experiencing new places.
Lauren’s aesthetic goal is to enhance your natural beauty and help you take care of your skin with state of the art treatments, products, and techniques.

Haley Closi attended Western Kentucky University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in nursing while also on a full ride scholarship with the women’s soccer team.
After college she moved back to Oregon where she spent four years as an orthopedic nurse. At Aesthetic Medicine Haley performs the tumescent anesthesia portion of the Laser-assisted lipolysis. You may also see her preoperatively at your history and physical appointment or postoperatively at your 3 week recheck. Haley loves to help women and men feel their absolute best. She also loves how this industry is constantly growing, and she continues to learn every day.
Outside of work, Haley enjoys hiking, traveling, floating on the river, and spending time with her husband, son, and golden retriever.
