BTL Emsella: Urinary Incontinence Treatments Portland

Step 1 of 2

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence, the loss of bladder control, is an embarrassing natural condition that affects women of all ages. It is usually caused by childbirth, body aging or menopause.

There are two types of urinary incontinence: stress incontinence and urge incontinence. 1 in 3 women suffer from urinary incontinence and if not treated or addressed early on, can lead to more permanent effects.

Typically symptoms include leaking induced by laughing, coughing or sneezing.  Also getting up several times nightly can be attributed to stress incontinence.  Stress incontinence is usually the result of the weakening of or damage to the muscles used to prevent urination, such as the pelvic floor muscles and the urethral sphincter. Urge incontinence exists when patients have an increased urge to go more frequently than usual.

Though common, this condition can be improved!  One of the treatments we offer for Urinary incontinence is the Viveve. At Aesthetic Medicine, we also offer BTL Emsella, a unique, breakthrough treatment for urinary incontinence that is revolutionizing the women’s intimate health  and wellness category by providing those suffering from incontinence with a completely, non-invasive option.

What is the Viveve?

The Viveve is a radiofrequency device which tightens the vaginal tissue and reduces urinary incontinence by tightening the muscles. This treatment is relatively painless, quick and long lasting. This device can improve urinary incontinence by 70%, increases vaginal lubrication and reduces the number of weekly episodes and the amount of leakage. When combined with the Emsella which strengthens the pelvic floor, it can achieve even greater results.

What is Emsella?

BTL Emsella is intended to provide entirely non-invasive electromagnetic stimulation of pelvic floor musculature for the purpose of rehabilitation of weak pelvic muscles and restoration of neuromuscular control for the treatment of urinary incontinence in women.

The device treats the entire pelvic floor, effectively stimulating pelvic floor muscles with thousands of contractions per session. The stimulation leads to regained control over pelvic floor muscles and bladder. One treatment is equivalent to 11,000 kegels in 30 minutes!

What to Expect from Emsella

The recommended number of treatments is 6. The treatment is typically about 30 minutes per session, with sessions separated by at least 2 days, depending on your needs. Completing a full treatment series is necessary to maximize treatment efficacy. The results will typically continue to improve over the next few weeks.

There is no pain associated with your treatment and there is no anesthetic required. You will experience gradually increasing tingling feeling and muscle contractions. These sensations in the pelvic area are normal and expected. On the day of the treatment, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes which allow flexibility for correct positioning and increased comfort during the treatment. As shown in the photo, you will be wearing your clothing during the treatment and sit in the Emsella chair.
