Why Choose Aesthetic Medicine™ for BOTOX® in Portland?

Our injectors at Aesthetic Medicine™ have been performing BOTOX® treatments for as long as they have been available. We have performed hundreds of thousands of treatments over the past 30 years! We blend our deep history of using the wrinkle relaxer with our ongoing education and commitment to staying current on the latest strategies and techniques to maximize both safety and results. Our goal is to deliver beautiful skin-smoothing effects while minimizing discomfort and risk. By putting our patients first with this philosophy, we are able to provide modern results with time-tested treatments.

What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is an injectable treatment that focuses on specific signs of aging: facial lines associated with muscle activity. These are wrinkles that develop as we make the same expressions day after day. When repeated contractions pull the skin into creases over and over again, the wrinkles grow increasingly pronounced each time—and can eventually become etched in so that they are always visible.

The key to smoothing these wrinkles is relaxing the muscles that cause them. This is where BOTOX® comes in.

BOTOX® is made from a purified form of botulinum toxin, which is naturally occurring and has the ability to diminish contractions for months at a time. When injected with precision into specific muscles, it can reduce the activity responsible for unwanted facial lines.

You will still be able to make a full range of expressions. You simply won’t reveal telltale creases and wrinkles when you do!

What Areas Can BOTOX® Treat?

BOTOX® has a long history of medical use, with decades of research and practical applications devoted to establishing its safety and effectiveness. The FDA has approved BOTOX® for three cosmetic applications: horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet next to the eyes.

Horizontal forehead lines appear as furrows when we raise our eyebrows. They are generally straight.

Frown lines develop as folds above the nose and between the eyebrows. They typically stand out primarily as two short, horizontal lines—earning them the nickname of “11s.”

Crow’s feet branch out as fine lines from the outer corner of either eye. They get their name due to the way they resemble a bird’s long toes. These wrinkles may also be called smile lines.

Trapezius BOTOX® can provide the look of a leaner neck and shoulders, masseter BOTOX® can slim the jawline, DAO BOTOX® can help with downturned mouth corners, BOTOX® for marionette lines helps with those facial creases, chin BOTOX® can smooth dimpling, and BOTOX® around the eyes can create a more alert look or provide the appearance of a brow lift. Aesthetic Medicine™ does not offer BOTOX® for migraines, but does share information with patients interested in learning about that option.

What Happens Before a BOTOX® Treatment Session?

Every treatment at Aesthetic Medicine™ starts the same way: with a personalized consultation. Whether a patient tells us they are considering BOTOX® or they simply know that they want to address signs of aging to get a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance, our approach is to recommend the best treatments for achieving their goals.

We start by listening in order to understand what each person is trying to accomplish. A medical professional from our team will make the necessary assessments and gather information—including a medical history—so we can determine whether you would be a good candidate for BOTOX®. While the injections are safe for the general public, there are some people who would benefit more from a different treatment, whether due to allergies to ingredients in the medication, skin conditions, or even the nature of their desired improvements.

We will also answer any and all questions you have about BOTOX®, including our experience and qualifications as injectors, how the medication works, what sorts of results to expect, what risks and side effects to watch for, and how much your unique treatment will cost.

What Happens During a BOTOX® Treatment Session?

Our experienced injectors work to make each injection session safe and as comfortable as possible. We will clean the treatment area, then make the few necessary injections in order to precisely deliver the BOTOX® to the right muscle.

Some patients have described the feeling of each injection as a “pinch” on their skin. The sensation is very brief. In fact, the entire process is brief. This treatment can be completed in a matter of minutes, so you can come in for your appointment and then get right back to life as usual.

What Happens After a BOTOX® Treatment Session?

Expect some mild side effects in the injection site, which many involve tenderness, redness, minor swelling, itching, soreness, and similar sensations common to treatments with needles. All of these can be expected to fade away on their own in the following hours and days. We advise against putting pressure on the injection sites, engaging in strenuous activity, and sitting in hot tubs or saunas for at least the first 24 hours after your visit.

The medication takes a little time to start calming muscle contractions. You should start to see its effects within 24 to 48 hours, with the results continuing to improve from there. The full effect—smoother skin, no matter what expression you make—should be visible within two weeks.

BOTOX® is a temporary treatment. Activity will gradually begin to return in the targeted muscles after three to four months on average. When this happens, patients can return for a new injection session to relax the muscles again. There is some evidence to indicate that muscles may be “trained” to stay more at rest over time, helping with a long-term relaxing effect.

What Injectable Treatments Are Available Beyond BOTOX® at Aesthetic Medicine?

While BOTOX® is ideal for treating lines associated with muscle contractions—which are known as dynamic wrinkles—patients who want to address other signs of aging should consider a different approach. Age-related volume loss causes creases and hollows to form, as well as flattening and sagging of once-youthful contours. Dermal fillers can help with this particular problem by adding volume back into the face where needed. Juvederm® and Restylane® make use of a hyaluronic acid-based gel, while Sculptra® stimulates natural collagen production to restore more youthful contours.

Just as different injectable treatments work to address different cosmetic issues, different patients benefit from unique treatment plans customized to their specific needs. Talk to our team to discover what options could work best for you!

How Botox® Cosmetic Works – The Science Behind The Treatment

BOTOX® Cosmetic has a one-of-a-kind formulation and only BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines look better in adults.

What Causes Facial Lines?

A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother. See real results with BOTOX® Cosmetic: the #1 selling product of its kind in the world. MODERATE TO SEVERE FROWN LINES

When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. Your specialist will inject these muscles to help make frown lines temporarily look better.

MODERATE TO SEVERE CROW’S FEET

When you squint or smile, the muscles around your eyes contract, causing crow’s feet. Your specialist will inject these muscles to help make crow’s feet temporarily look better.

MODERATE TO SEVERE FOREHEAD LINES

When you raise your eyebrows, the muscles on your forehead contract, causing skin to furrow and fold. Your specialist will inject these muscles to help make forehead lines temporarily look better.

What Should I Expect?

Some patients receiving BOTOX Injections Portland report the injections feel like a pinch. You may begin to notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines within 24 to 48 hours, with results lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines in adults.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a permanent treatment. If you discontinue treatment the moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines will gradually return.
