Aesthetic Medicine - Home Aesthetic Medicine Physicians & Surgeons Erase The Wrinkles Painless Laser Makeovers

Procedure

Pretreatment:

1) No aspirin or ibuprofen 48 hours prior to or after treatment is recommended to limit possible bruising.

2) No tanning or use of tanning solutions should be used 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Contraindications:

Pregnancy, use of medications that increase photosensitivity, history of keloid scarring and recent sun exposure.

Treatment:

Microdermabrasion may be used prior to laser treatment to gently exoliate the top layer of skin. The laser wavelength, exposure duration and energy level are chosen to selectively stimulate collagen growth without damage to the surrounding tissue.

Risk/Discomfort:

1) Pain: Most patients do not feel any discomfort.

2) Redness: Redness sometimes occurs around the eys and usually resolves in just a few hours following treatment.

3) Brusing: Bruising is rarely seen in this office but may occur depending on strength of suction in microdermabrasion and skin sensitivity. Symptoms usually resolve in 1-5 days and maybe concealed with make-up.

4) Swelling: If swelling occurs ice packs and a low sodium diet is recommended.

5) Pigment change: Occasionally treated areas can have an increase or decrease in pigment. These skin changes are more likely in darker skin types and are usually temporary resolving in 1-6 months. Rarely is this pigment change permanent.

6) Eye Irritation: Patients are required to wear protective eye wear during treatment.
